For me, rugby is a lifestyle and passion. I started playing rugby at the beginning of freshman year. I had no idea what to expect but from my first practice, I was hooked.
I loved the idea of going hard on the field and being a friend off the field. After I played my first season I realized I had lots to work on, and that's when rugby became a passion.
I got to the gym and worked on my fundamental rugby skills. I saw progress in my skills and fitness and wanted more. Because of rugby, fitness and health became a huge part of my life. When I played sevens at a National tournament, I realized how important rugby culture is. People welcomed me to their team and community with open arms. For me, being a rugby player means you always give 110%. It also means showing support when your teammates are down and celebrating when your teammates do well. I try to be a “rugby player” in all aspects of life, by giving everything my all and always being there for people. The saying that rugby is a savage sport played by gentlemen is perfect. You can be boshing people as hard as you can on the field and then laugh about it after the whistle blows. This teaches people how to live in the moment and turn negative situations into something enjoyable.
Rugby has given me endless opportunities and has brought me around the world. I am forever grateful for rugby and the experiences that have come along with it. I am eager and excited to keep going in my rugby career and see how far I can go.
